Bulgarian Legacy

Bulgaria is a relatively small country of ancient culture, endless scenic beauty, predominantly friendly people, and exclusive hospitality and human warmth. known It is known to the World as the land of the roses, the motherland of Bay Ganyo, or simply as that country from the Casablanca movie. Very few people know that Bulgaria is home to the world's oldest known writing system (dated to over 6000 years ago, engraved on the Gradeshnitsa Tablets) or that Bulgaria's civilized history dating back more than six millennia marks the birth of Europe's and possibly the world's first literary culture.

Geographically, Bulgaria is situated in South Eastern Europe (or as many people may know it - simply Eastern Europe). It has area of  111 000 square kilometers - pretty much exactly the area of Cuba. It occupies the central part of the Balkan Peninsula which means that the Balkans run right through it. If you still cannot imagine where in the World is Bulgaria, think "North of Turkey". This is rather narrow-minded though, considering the fact that Bulgaria is much older than Turkey as a country (some 13 centuries older). To the North Bulgaria borders with Romania and most of this border is the Danube river. The Eastern border is the Black Sea which you definitely have to visit if you have not yet done so. The Western border is Serbia (a.k.a. Yugoslavia) and a little bit of Macedonia to the southwest. To the South, besides Turkey, we share half of the border with Greece.
